RADDA IN CHIANTI
Radda in Chianti is located in the heart of Chianti Classico. In the second half of two hundred Florence organized its countryside in what was a mayor. Radda in 1415 was declared the capital of the League of Chianti, and it had therefore established the Podestą with jurisdiction over Terzieri of Radda, Gaiole and Castellina. Around and within a few kilometers there are places and landscapes of particular interest: the Convent of the Franciscans The Pieve di S. Maria Novella, Albola, Badia Montemuro and, almost at the foot of Mount Querciabella, Volpaia, whose castle of the tenth century still inspires a dark medieval atmosphere.
GLI ETRUSCHI A CASTELLINA IN CHIANTI
One of the most interesting archaeological discoveries of all Chianti is certainly the Mound of Mount Calvary (VI cent. BC) consists of four chamber tombs with entrances oriented towards the four cardinal points. A witness of an important Etruscan presence in the territory of Castellina, be numbered among the other artefacts such as the Well of Casalvento, the tombs of the Necropolis of Poggino and a recently identified by the "Gruppo Archeologico Salingolpe" in Fonterutoli .
BADIA A COLTIBUONO
The monastery, founded in 1051, was the property of Vallombrosa Benedictine monks until 1810. In the fifteenth century, the abbey of the "Good Harvest" was a major development being under the patronage of Lorenzo de'Medici. Later it was transformed into a villa-farm while maintaining its function as a garrison of agriculture to this day. The garden of the Abbey, restored radically in recent decades, is set according to a schedule that reflects the score of the hortus conclusus by geometric hedges of boxwood with placement of plants and aromatic officinal. The rectangular tub in the center of the garden and paving of the paths are made of sandstone.
